Grande Portage Resources Ltd. Announces Updates

VANCOUVER, July 23 /CNW/ - Grande Portage Resources Ltd. (TSX-V GPG)
("Grande Portage" or "the Company") is pleased to announce the following
update:

    Pass Property, Smithers, BC.
    ----------------------------
The Company is in the process of signing a drill contract for up to
2000 metres diamond drilling to commence early August with a local contractor
based in Smithers, B.C. It is anticipated that camp construction will begin
the week of July 28 and take a week to complete with drilling to follow
shortly thereafter. The program will consist of approximately 40 holes that
will test the mineralization exposed in historic trenches on the property.
The drill program will focus on the high-grade gold-silver bearing
polymetallic quartz veins from which selected grab samples collected in 2007
assayed up to 72.95 g/t gold, 365 g/t silver, 1.218% copper, 29.0% lead and
20.14% zinc.

    Merry Widow, Vancouver Island, BC.
    ----------------------------------
The Company has initiated baseline environmental studies at the Merry
Widow property within the drainage basin area of the past producing Merry
Widow open pit. The water sampling program is being managed by Wardrop
Engineering and is using local personnel from the Quatsino First Nation in an
agreement between Grande Portage-Quatsino-Wardrop.
The program will entail monthly sample collection over a period of
approximately one year to determine the baseline values in both the dry and
wet season. The data will be used towards furthering development at the Merry
Widow open pit. Personnel under the direction of Wardrop will collect the
samples, along with blank and duplicate samples for quality control measures,
and submit them to Maxxam Analytics Inc. in Burnaby, B.C. for analysis.
The Company will drill between 1,000 to 2,000 metres of core to test for
extensions of the known mineralization at Merry Widow open pit. The program
will focus over a strike length of 200 metres extending south of the pit to
link up with the Marten zone. If the program is successful further drilling
will be required to allow for a 43-101 compliant resource calculation to be
added to the existing resource.
