Grand & Toy to become sustainability role model

Launch of multi-year plan will affect every facet of company's operations

    TORONTO, Oct. 17 /CNW/ - Grand & Toy, Canada's leading provider of
business solutions, today announced it is transforming its entire operation as
part of a new strategy towards sustainability. The new initiative is part of
Grand & Toy's recent re-branding and new business-to-business model involving
strategic supply sourcing for client companies.
As the company celebrates 125 years of success, it conducted a review of
the organization to pinpoint opportunities for streamlining processes and
reduce Grand & Toy's environmental impact while maximizing social benefits
across its whole supply chain.
"What we're doing is setting an example of how to include sustainability
in a corporate strategy. We are excited about the possibilities associated
with sustainability and to meaningfully reduce our environmental impact," said
Garry Wood, President of Grand & Toy. "There are many companies today claiming
to be sustainable. Often the actions they take have a minimal impact."

Grand & Toy has established a comprehensive sustainability strategy
encompassing seven key pillars of sustainability, including:

    - Environmental footprint
    - Product stewardship
    - Employment practices
    - Customer partnerships
    - Sustainable/ethical sourcing
    - Impact on communities
    - Communication & reporting

This integrated sustainability approach is the most comprehensive in the
Canadian industry and leads the way towards a variety of bold business
practices and solutions.
"Today, Grand & Toy enters the era of sustainability and is determined to
be a leader," said Wood. "This is not just about being green - it's about
being socially responsible and taking a journey towards true sustainability to
continue to be the leading Canadian business solutions company for another 125
years and beyond."
This new initiative will affect every part of Grand & Toy's business,
ensuring it is sustainable to its very core. Aspects of the plan include:

    - A significant reduction of the company's environmental footprint in
supply chain carbon intensity, packaging, recycling and waste, and
       distribution centre management
    - The development of the largest selection of environmentally preferable
products and services available on the market
    - Annual sustainability reports to communicate results to stakeholders
    - The establishment of sustainability initiatives to steer corporate
Canada towards greener and more socially responsible business
       practices
