Graco Children's Products Inc. Announces Voluntary Safety Advisory to Replace Soft Blocks Tower Toys on Activity Center Due to Choking Hazard

    MONTREAL, May 2 /CNW Telbec/ - Graco Children's Products Inc. announced a
voluntary Safety Advisory of the following component of a consumer product.
Consumers should stop using products affected by this Safety Advisory
immediately unless otherwise instructed.

    Name of Product: Soft Blocks Tower Toys (on Graco(R) Baby Einstein(R)
discover and play(TM) Activity Centers)

    Units Sold in United States: About 40,000

    Units Sold in Canada: About 4,150

    Manufacturer: Graco Children's Products Inc., of Exton, Pa, USA

    Hazard: The plastic covering on the Soft Blocks Tower Toys can detach,
posing a choking hazard to infants.

    Incidents/Injuries: In the US, Graco has received 137 reports of infants
mouthing and chewing pieces of the plastic film covering, some of whom
required medical attention. Serious incident reports in the US include 32
infants who gagged and 49 who choked on the plastic covering. Additionally,
there have been 8 reports in Canada of infants mouthing and chewing pieces of
the plastic covering, none of which required medical attention. Serious
incident reports in Canada include 3 infants who gagged and 2 who choked on
the plastic covering.

    Description: The Soft Blocks Tower Toy is a stack of three different
shaped stuffed fabric blocks in red, yellow and blue. Pictures of apples, fire
engines, ducks, bananas, birds and blueberries on the blocks are covered in
plastic film. The Soft Blocks Tower Toy is one of nine toys that snap onto the
tray of the activity center. Only model number 4635BEE with serial numbers
012705 through 063005, which indicates the manufacture dates of January 27,
2005 through June 30, 2005, are included in this recall. Model and serial
numbers are located underneath the activity center's tray.

    Sold By: Toys "R" Us, Sears, Zellers, and various specialty retailers
nationwide from February 2005 through about December 2005 for $149.

    Remedy: Consumers should immediately remove the Soft Blocks Tower Toy
from the activity center and call Elfe Juvenile Products, the Canadian
distributor for Graco Children's Products in Canada at 800-667-8184 or go to
the firm's website at for a free replacement Soft Blocks Tower
Toy without the plastic film. Consumers can continue to use the activity
center after the Soft Blocks Tower Toy has been removed.
