Government of Canada supports the Brampton Centre for Education and Training for Immigrants

BRAMPTON, ON, March 30 /CNW Telbec/ - Wajid Khan, MP, today participated
in the official opening of the Centre for Education and Training in Brampton,
on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Citizenship and
Immigration.
"Organizations like this play a vital role in helping newcomers settle
into their communities," said Mr. Khan, Member of Parliament for
Mississauga-Streetsville. "Newcomers to Canada depend on services such as
these and I'm proud to be part of a government that recognizes the importance
of helping immigrant families succeed."
"Canada's New Government wants newcomers and their families to thrive and
that is reflected in the additional settlement funding we've provided to
provinces and territories," said Minister Finley. "In Ontario, this increase
means additional support for centres such as the Brampton Centre for Education
and Training."
The Brampton Centre for Education and Training is a one-stop location
that delivers a broad range of settlement services such as language assessment
and training, one-on-one counselling and career advice, online job searching
and résumé-writing workshops. Canada's New Government recently increased its
funding for the centre by more than $1 million, bringing the government's
total funding to over $2.6 million for the language assessment and instruction
program and over $1.2 million for the settlement and adaptation program.
The increased funding allows the Centre to deliver higher levels of
language training as well as basic literacy classes for beginning students. It
also allows for a self-directed Newcomer Information Centre, and contributes
to Career Coach, a mobile unit that provides settlement and employment
assistance services.
