Minister of State (Status of Women) today announced support to Justice Options
for Women Inc. for a project aimed at ending all forms of violence and
discrimination against women and girls, and at developing leadership skills
among women at high risk of experiencing violence in Prince Edward Island.
Justice Options for Women Inc., a Charlottetown-based provincial
initiative dedicated to encouraging and developing safe and effective
responses to violence against women in P.E.I., will receive funding for its
project, Circles of Safety and Support: Building Capacity.
"I am proud of our Government's support for this worthwhile project,
which provides concrete and effective measures to increase women's safety in
Prince Edward Island," said Minister of State Guergis. "Through this
initiative, Justice Options for Women Inc. will build confidence and
leadership skills among women survivors of violence, ensuring they have the
opportunity to participate fully in their communities."
"Our organization works to increase supportive justice options for women
who experience violence, and to increase safety, support and equality for
women," said Ms. Roxanne Carter-Thompson, President, Justice Options for Women
Inc. "Through the Circles of Safety project, some 100 Island women survivors
of violence will benefit from mentoring sessions by becoming peer mentors to
an additional 100 women survivors of violence. Further sessions for 240

Island women in crisis."

Community Fund of the Women's Program of Status of Women Canada. The objective
of this Fund is to address the economic and social situation of women and
their participation in democratic life through projects that directly support
women in their communities.
Status of Women Canada is a federal government agency working to promote
