Journalist and diplomat Pamela Wallin of Ontario, Canada, has been selected as
the 2008 recipient of Toastmasters International's Golden Gavel Award.

The Golden Gavel is the most prestigious award offered by Toastmasters
International, a worldwide organization devoted to teaching public speaking
and leadership skills. The award has been presented once a year since 1959 to
a distinguished individual in the fields of communication and leadership. Past
recipients include Walter Cronkite, Earl Nightingale, Rev. Robert Schuller,

the national television newscast Prime Time News. She founded her own
television company, Pamela Wallin Productions, producing and hosting a live
nightly program interviewing celebrities and newsmakers. She also hosted the
Canadian edition of Who Wants to be a Millionaire? She currently serves as the
senior advisor on Canadian - U.S. relations to the President of the Americas
Society and Council of the Americas in New York. In Canada, she serves on many
corporate boards and is the Chancellor of the University of Guelph in Guelph,
Ontario.

Wallin will accept the Golden Gavel award at a luncheon in her honor on
Thursday, August 14 at the Telus Convention Centre in Calgary, Alberta,
Canada, during Toastmasters International Convention.

Toastmasters International has helped more than four million people
become better speakers since the organization's founding in 1924 at the YMCA
