MONTREAL, Oct. 14 /CNW Telbec/ - In cooperation with the Danish Safety
Technology Authority (Sikkerhedsstyrelsen) and the U. S. Consumer Product
Safety Commission, GN Netcom today announces a battery replacement program for
batteries manufactured by Amperex Technology Limited ("ATL") and used in the
GN Netcom-branded GN9120 wireless headset.
Under rare conditions it is possible for these batteries to overheat due
to internal short circuits which can pose a fire hazard. Therefore GN Netcom
advises its customers to unplug the product and stop using it immediately.
"Product safety is a key priority for us. We have sold more than
1 million units worldwide and less then fifty incidents have been reported.
However, as a precautionary measure GN Netcom has decided to initiate a
replacement program to prevent further incidents. We have also changed both
the battery supplier and the battery type for the GN9120 Series," said Toon
Bouten, CEO and President at GN Netcom.
The batteries to be replaced were included in GN9120 wireless headsets
sold between January 2005 and September 2008. The products are intended for
office use and call centres and were primarily sold through distributors and
resellers. The affected batteries have a white plastic enclosure and are
labelled "Made by ATL (Amperex Technology Ltd.)" and "(ATL P/N 603028)". The
affected batteries have also been sold as replacement equipment labelled
"GN9120 Battery replacement kit". Only GN9120 headsets with this specific ATL
battery are affected by this replacement program.
GN Netcom is asking customers to go to www.Jabra.com/battery for more
information and to order replacement batteries free of charge.
"We are doing everything we can to secure a swift replacement and we
regret any inconvenience this may cause our customers," said Toon Bouten
