Global Human Rights for Queers: What OUT is About

TORONTO, June 16 /CNW/ - Pride Toronto 2008 stands in solidarity with
LGBTTIQQ2S communities with a new human rights campaign, Global Human Rights
for Queers: What OUT is About. Jamaican born Gareth Henry leads Toronto's
Pride Parade as International Grand Marshal. Jamaica has been named "the most
homophobic country in the world" by Time Magazine in 2006.
"The victim of multiple homophobic attacks himself, Gareth, against all
odds and at grave risk to himself, has and continues to courageously campaign
for the rights and protection of all LGBT Jamaicans," says Pride Toronto's
Executive Director, Fatima Amarshi. Gareth Henry explains, "the opportunity
will help me to highlight the oppression, violence and hatred that LGBTQ
peoples face in Jamaica and will also give Canadians an opportunity to stand
in solidarity with us. Together we can make a difference!"
