Imagination's line up of board, DVD games talk of the show
TORONTO, Jan. 25 /CNW/ - Outstanding sales and a growing market have
prompted international games giant Imagination to set up shop in Canada,
making sell-out sensations like Deal or No Deal, Who Wants To Be a Millionaire
and Press Your Luck available direct to retailers from Vancouver to Halifax
for the first time in the company's history.
"It's going to be an exciting year for game buyers in this country," says
Jean-Paul Teskey, Director of Imagination's new Canadian operations, "and it
all starts this weekend with our debut at the 68th Canadian Toy and Hobby Fair
Teskey says Imagination's hugely successful DVD games like Family Feud
and board game classics like Urban Myth will be joined in `08 by Frogger and
Planet Earth DVD Board Game, an exciting new title made from 90% post-consumer
"Planet Earth is a fantastic game that challenges the whole family to
work together and save the planet," Teskey says of the DVD board game based on
the Emmy Award-winning BBC nature documentary that has sold in excess of
1 million copies worldwide and holds the record for being the most-watched
cable TV event of all time.
"Frogger and Planet Earth are the perfect additions to our roster of
other great DVD and board games - a list that includes best-selling titles
like Dance Dance Revolution, Battle of the Sexes and Fact or Crap."
Imagination's decision to jump into the Canadian market with both feet is
the latest in a series of global expansions by the Australian-based company.
In Canada, annual retail game sales total $167 million and the market is
hungry for the kind of family-oriented DVD and board game titles Imagination
is known for producing.
The company's new Canadian presence will complement existing operations
already spanning the globe. Imagination currently has offices in the US,
Europe, and Australia; its products are available in over 85,000 retail
