Give new life to old computers and electronics! ERA Hosts an Electronics Recycling and Donation ROUNDUP at the Vancouver Art Gallery on July 11th!

VANCOUVER, July 8 /CNW/ - Have you been saving your old computers and
laptops at your home or at the office?... Finally, the perfect opportunity to
donate or recycle your equipment to a good cause.
On July 11th 2008, The Electronic Recycling Association www.era.ca will
be on-site at the Vancouver Art Gallery from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. The staff and
volunteers will be set up in front of the water fountain at the main entrance
of the Gallery. This event will be focused on collecting all sorts of computer
and electronic equipment for donation to local non profit organizations or
handled for recycling. All businesses and residents who donate any equipment
will instantly be entered into a draw to win a large variety of prizes
presented/donated by a variety of generous sponsors.
"It is exciting to host these types of community events across the Lower
Mainland to raise awareness for local businesses and residents of BC. People
often forget how important it is to use the 3 R's... except REUSE is first on
our list. We are trying our best to encourage people to try and give their old
computers and electronics another chance of life before letting them end up in
a smelter. Hundreds of charities, non profit organizations and other community
based organizations are in desperate need of computers and other technological
devices, but simply cannot afford them; new or used. We are hoping to open the
eyes of our community and make a difference in the lives of the needy."
Joanna Trebon, Accounts and Operations Manager of ERA Vancouver.
The ERA will have tents set up in front of the fountain, a truck parked
on-site to load donations throughout the day, and many information brochures
available to take home. All businesses, schools and government departments
with large quantity donations are encouraged to contact the ERA to book a
complimentary pick-up. All equipment will be sorted and tested by certified
volunteer technicians for quality. It will then be decided whether the items
are suitable for donation or handled for recycling.
"This event is very special because it is open to all computer and
electronic equipment, functional or non functional. We are happy to collect
anything from laptops to stereo equipment and even old Nintendo's. During this
event we will NOT be accepting any household appliances or television sets,
sorry. Hopefully we have a large turn out, and we sincerely look forward to
spending a day in a beautiful destination of our great city of Vancouver."
Joanna Trebon, ERA.
"The words Reuse Recycle and Reduce often come up in conversation, media,
and are on our minds more and more these days. Everyone is doing their part in
reducing the impact of human consumerism and waste, now is your chance to
contribute to our environment. It is important in our community to reduce
prematurely recycled electronics and to give them another life by donating
them to those in need. We look forward to joining efforts in combating e-waste
with you on our event this July 11th, see you there!" Mandy Roddick, Donations
coordinator.
