BURNABY, BC, Jan. 30 /CNW/ - With only days until one of the most
anticipated sporting events of the year, Future Shop, Canada's largest
consumer electronics retailer, offers tips on how to bring the Super Bowl to
life through high-definition television (HDTV). Currently, about 15 - 20% of
Canadian households have invested in flat panel high-definition (HD)
televisions, and of those, only about 50% have purchased a source which can
maximize their viewing experience.
"Consumers are still learning that to enjoy true HD, they need an HD
source, such as an HD cable or HD satellite receiver," says Lee Scherbinsky,
Senior Merchandising Manger, Communications. "HD provides viewers the ultimate
true to life experience, making them feel they're not just watching the game
but they're at it."
High-definition programming offers crisp colour, sharper images, a higher
level of realism, and a greater sense of involvement. To get the full
experience from a HDTV and home audio system, a source box and subsequent HD
from a carrier is required to deliver a true HD experience. Options include HD
cable or satellite, which offer resolutions up to 1080p (six times better than
a DVD) and 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound. With an HD home theatre system, and a
true HD source, the sight and sounds will bring the Super Bowl to life.
"TV technology has made tremendous strides in the last few years in an
effort to deliver the clearest image possible," adds Scherbinsky. "HD really
is the easiest way to deliver the true sense of reality - like you were
actually there at the game from the comfort of your home. By purchasing an
HDTV you have taken that first step toward that adventure - the next step is
simply ensuring you have the correct HD content."
Product experts are available to help customers meet all their HDTV and
audio needs for Sunday's game.
