George Armoyan takes top honours as Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year(R) 2008 for the Atlantic Region



    HALIFAX, Oct. 10 /CNW/ - A true entrepreneur who exemplifies a real sense
of community spirit, George Armoyan of Clarke Inc/Geosam Investments Limited
is the Atlantic region's Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year 2008 Award
recipient.
    "Mr. Armoyan has driven extraordinary results at a number of
organizations over the past two decades. He has successfully weathered the ups
and downs of the economy, and turned challenges into opportunities," said
Joyce Hoeven, Director of the Entrepreneur Of The Year Awards program for the
Atlantic region. "He has made a solid contribution to the business community
here - and to the wider community. Mr. Armoyan is a strong leader who
exemplifies entrepreneurism at its best."
    Mr. Armoyan, President and CEO of Clarke Inc/Geosam Investments Limited,
received the award at a formal gala held last night, in Halifax. He has a
proven track record in mergers, acquisitions and capitalizing on turn-around
opportunities. Over the last 20 years, Mr. Armoyan has built a strong
reputation for his proven business results by using a prudently aggressive
approach. He joined Clarke as a member of its board of directors in 2001, and
served as its chairman before assuming his current position in 2003. He also
serves on the boards of Art in Motion, General Donlee Income Fund, Royal Host
REIT, TerraVest Income Fund and Shermag Inc. Mr. Armoyan is a devoted
volunteer who has worked with important causes in the Atlantic region,
including the Nova Scotia Hospital Foundation, the United Way and the
Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Armoyan also received the
business-to-business products and services category award.
    In addition, Irving Schwartz was recognized last night as the Atlantic
Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year 2008 Lifetime Achievement Award winner,
in recognition of his innumerable contributions to the regional and national

    As the Atlantic Entrepreneur Of The Year 2008, Mr. Armoyan will compete
with top entrepreneurs from the Pacific, Prairies, Ontario and Québec regions
for the honour of Canada's Entrepreneur Of The Year 2008, to be announced
November 26, 2008, in Toronto. In June 2009, Canada's Entrepreneur Of The Year
2008 will move to the world stage to compete with more than 40 country
recipients for the title of Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur Of The Year(R).
Canada's own Guy Laliberté from Cirque du Soleil was the recipient of the 2007
World Entrepreneur Of The Year Award.
