GE Fanuc Embedded Systems Announces Neternity(TM) Family Of Embedded Switches, OpenWare(TM) Switch Management Environment

    CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA., April 3 /CNW/ - Demonstrating its leadership
position as a developer of embedded switches for the commercial, military and
telecommunications markets, GE Fanuc Embedded Systems today announced the
Neternity(TM) line. The Neternity(TM) family of embedded switches encompasses
existing products as well as products that will be announced in the future.

    Concurrently, GE Fanuc Embedded Systems announced the OpenWare(TM) switch
management environment. OpenWare(TM) is portable across switch fabrics and
processor environments, is easy to customize using the familiar Linux command
line interface and is designed to make selected GE Fanuc Embedded Systems
Neternity(TM) switches easy to deploy and easy to manage. OpenWare(TM) will be
available on new members of the Neternity(TM) family, and progressively made
available on existing family members.

    Also announced today are the first new Neternity(TM)/OpenWare(TM) family
products: the RM921, RM922RC and CP921RC Gigabit Ethernet switches.

    GE Fanuc Embedded Systems is unique in that it serves an unusually broad
set of customers. On the one hand, the company has strength in the
communications market, which tends to drive IP technology, protocols, packet
processing and switching requirements - and GE Fanuc Embedded Systems is able
to make this leading-edge expertise available to military and aerospace
customers. On the other hand, military and aerospace customers (where GE Fanuc
Embedded Systems is at the heart of many high profile programs) lead in their
demands for ruggedized products for deployment in harsh environments, and in
long term product lifecycle management - issues that are of increasing concern
to customers in the telecommunications market.

    GE Fanuc Embedded Systems Ethernet embedded switches are available in a
broad range of formats, including 6U VME, 3U VME, 6U CompactPCI and 3U
CompactPCI, and can be deployed in both benign and harsh environments.
CompactPCI switches are PICMG 2.16 compliant.
