GE Canada Headquarters first to receive LEED-EB Certification in Ontario

MISSISSAUGA, ON, Oct. 15 /CNW/ - GE Canada's Mississauga Headquarters
building was awarded LEED-EB (LEED Existing Building) Certification through
the US Green Building Council (USGBC) on February 14, 2008. This is the FIRST
such certification in Ontario, and the FIRST GE site globally, to achieve
EB Certification.
"The GE team has accomplished a significant environmental milestone,"
notes Elyse Allan, President/CEO GE Canada. "Our employees have embraced
environmental stewardship, and the LEED EB certification recognizes the
commitment we have made to reducing our footprint today, and well into the
future."
LEED is a Green Building Rating System designed to encourage and
accelerate global adoption for achieving sustainability in new and existing
green buildings. The rating system enables building owners and operators to
measure and benchmark building performance, impact on the environment, and
ways to increase efficiencies.
"GE Canada is to be congratulated for receiving LEED certification on its
headquarters in Ontario, Canada," said Rick Fedrizzi, President, CEO &
Founding Chair, U.S. Green Building Council. "The project will be a showcase
for high-performance, energy-efficient, healthy buildings, and an inspiration
for others."

Some of GE's key achievements recognized in the LEED EB certification
process included:

    1. An ENERGY STAR rating 20% higher than the average existing building.
