TORONTO, Sept. 23, 2011 /CNW/ - TV's biggest night is back with a bang. More than 4 million viewers watched an all-new episode of THE BIG BANG THEORY Thursday night on CTV, making it the #1 program of the day and the most-watched episode in series history. Airing immediately after its season premiere, the episode goes down in the record books as the third most-watched comedy broadcast ever in Canada.

As Penny and Raj figured out how to deal with the aftermath of their coital encounter in last season's finale, THE BIG BANG THEORY powered CTV to an incredible night Thursday, with CTV and CTV Two ranking as the Top 2 networks at 8 p.m., 9 p.m. and 10 p.m., in total viewers and key adult demos as well. In the end, CTV and CTV Two delivered the Top 5 most-watched programs on Canadian television Thursday night in total viewers and key demos:

A closer look at Night Four of Premiere Week:

At 7 p.m.

  • Out of simulcast on CTV, CHARLIE'S ANGELS won its timeslot with 955,000 viewers.

At 8 p.m.

  • Surging 19% over last season's premiere, THE BIG BANG THEORY's season premiere was watched by 3.7 million viewers on CTV.
  • On CTV Two, THE X FACTOR was second in its timeslot with 1.2 million viewers from 8-9 p.m.

At 8:30 p.m.

  • With 4.05 million viewers, the second all-new episode of THE BIG BANG THEORY delivered a 42.5 Share, with more than two out of every five English-language television viewers watching the program.
  • The episode delivered double digit ratings in all key demos in Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver.

At 9 p.m.

  • The season premiere of Canada's #1 drama series GREY'S ANATOMY won its timeslot from 9-11 p.m. with 2.3 million viewers on CTV.

  • On CTV Two, THE X FACTOR grew 26% from its first hour among total viewers to rank #2 in the timeslot.

  • THE X FACTOR (1.5 million viewers, 9-10 p.m.) delivered 53% more viewers than the series premiere of PERSON OF INTEREST (961,000 viewers; Citytv/CBS). CTV Two was up 68% in A18-49 and 28% in A25-54 compared to Citytv.

At 10 p.m.

  • The season premiere of THE MENTALIST on CTV Two was watched by 1.2 million viewers, to rank #2 in the timeslot behind GREY'S ANATOMY.
  • THE MENTALIST on CTV Two (1.19 million) delivered 33% more viewers than the series premiere of PRIME SUSPECT (Global/NBC; 897,000). CTV Two was up 74% in A18-49 and 41% in A25-54 compared to Global.
