Thousands of fans choose Find A Canary as their favourite artist
TORONTO, June 3 /CNW/ - MySpace Canada, in partnership with Corus
Entertainment, today announced the first "Found on MySpace" contest winner.
Thousands of votes have been tallied and MySpace users have named Find A
Canary (http://www.myspace.com/findacanary) as the winner. On June 4, the
Toronto-based band will be featured on ExploreMusic and ExploreMusic.com, a
nationally syndicated radio show and online music discovery service with
acclaimed music expert, Alan Cross.
With music written and arranged by Sean Paul Brady, and performed with
Ryan Downie, Brayden Alexander and Andrew Aprile, Find A Canary
(http://www.myspace.com/findacanary) has been playing together for the past
five years. The name of the band is a reference to lyrics in a White Stripes
song. Though there are no similarities in style, Sean Paul is a huge fan of
their music, and counts them as one of his influences among other indie bands
that have broke into mainstream success including: Broken Social Scene, The
Arcade Fire, Sonic Youth, Grizzly Bear and Radiohead.
"The contest with MySpace Radio was a great opportunity to increase Find
A Canary's (http://www.myspace.com/findacanary) exposure, but also to bring
attention to the talent within the Canadian indie music scene," said Sean Paul
Brady. "We have a lot of great people supporting the band, which has
definitely grown since entering the contest. We just want to thank every
single person that voted for Find A Canary
(http://www.myspace.com/findacanary), and to the four other bands in the
"MySpace Canada has a role to play in helping emerging artists get
discovered. With Found on MySpace, we've taken the best of MySpace, combined
it with a unique program offering in ExploreMusic and filled the gap of needs
that aren't currently being met by the record industry," said Sue McGill,
Executive Director of Sales, Marketing and Business Development, MySpace
Canada. "We are extremely pleased with the response from both Canadian
musicians and users who participated in this inaugural month's contest.
MySpace Canada congratulates Find A Canary

they have what it takes to be discovered to enter "Found on MySpace" this
"Music fans know that they can go to MySpace and find virtually any
artist or band they want no matter the size or genre," said Alan Cross,
Curator of ExploreMusic.com. "We're going to see a lot more Canadian musicians
break into the mainstream because of their increased exposure on MySpace.
ExploreMusic's goal is to help in the discovery and breakthrough of lesser
known and undiscovered Canadian musicians."
