TORONTO and BEIJING, Feb. 4 /CNW/ - Canada China Business Council (CCBC)
Chairman Peter Kruyt has announced that Hon. David Emerson, P.C., former
International Trade and Foreign Affairs Minister for Canada, has joined the
Board of Directors of CCBC. "We are delighted to make this announcement. Mr.
Emerson is a champion for Canadian trade and investment and is highly
respected in China. He will bring personal passion for Sino-Canadian relations
and unmatched professional experience to CCBC."
Mr. Emerson was appointed Canada's Minister of Industry in July 2004 and
became Minister of Foreign Affairs in 2008. He had been both the British

"I am delighted to join the Board of CCBC," Mr. Emerson said. "It's an
organization that has contributed enormously to a stronger Canada-China
business relationship. In these challenging economic times our trans-Pacific
ties with China will be critical to the shaping of our economic future."
Canada China Business Council President Peter Harder, a former Deputy
Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, said, "We expect Mr.
Emerson will very quickly become a leader in the national discourse on
Canada-China trade and investment, as he was in his careers in politics and
business."
CCBC Executive Director Sarah Kutulakos said of Mr. Emerson's
appointment, "His political insights and illustrious private career complement
an extraordinary Board of Directors. We have a Board that not only has very
deep business roots in bilateral Canada-China commerce; our Board members have
