MONTREAL, April 5 /CNW Telbec/ - La Fondation du Musée d'art contemporain
de Montréal, will be hosting the first of it's kind benefit event:
Fluorescents: retour aux sources, organized by it's new Youth Comity on
Friday, April 13th.
This event focusses on the young Montreal professionals and is primarily
designed to operate a reconciliation between them and contemporary art.
Inspired by the art of Bruce Nauman, who will be exposing at the Musée d'art
contemporain in May of this year, made famous by his use of neon lights, the
Youth Comity will use the idea of fluorescent lights and make it happen in a
variety of ways. The theme of lights and incandescence will be celebrated by
multimedia performances, rhythm and music of one of the most acclaimed young
Canadian musician: DJ Champion. Also, under the direction of clothing designer
Kevin Allwood, Nevik will be presenting a few of their all new creations.
Last autumn, the Fondation du Musée d'art contemporain created the Youth
Comity to reach out and create interest within a younger crowd for the museum
and for contemporary art. Members of the comity are: Mélanie Joly, Constance
Venne, Yan Besner, Ben Mulroney, Catherine Perreault, Jan-Freyderyk
Pleszczynski, Lysanne Lepage and Alexandre Trudeau.
Madame Liza Frulla, president of the Fondation du Musée d'art
contemporain, is pleased with this initiative. "Montreal is filled with young
dynamic professionals attracted by art. Furthermore youth, in my opinion, can
easily relate to contemporary art because it poses both a realistic and
amusing look on our societies. This is why I strongly encourage initiatives
that promote youth and art. She adds: "Contemporary art is growing strong on
the Montreal scene and the Musée d'art contemporain is its main vector and
well positioned to help young people get familiar with today's art."
Madame Mélanie Joly, president of the Youth comity, adds: "Artists today
speak of the world in which we all live. Without youth implication,
contemporary art becomes rigid. That's why it is imperative to promote a
dialogue between the artists and the young montrealers, in order to make them
discover actual art and promote it. Fluorescents: retour aux sources, was
conceived with this idea in mind."
Tickets are 100$ each and can be bought directly from the Youth comity by
