Frito-Lay's Newest Brand Combines Great Taste with the Goodness of Real
Fruits and Vegetables
TORONTO, Oct. 4 /CNW/ - Frito Lay Canada is pleased to introduce a
brand-new snack: Flat Earth(TM) baked vegetable crisps and fruit crisps! The
Flat Earth brand was created by Frito-Lay with the goal of offering a
better-for-you snack that combines great taste and the goodness of real
vegetables and fruits in an Impossibly Good(TM) snack crisp.
Flat Earth baked vegetable and fruit crisps are made from a blend of
rice, potatoes and provide a half serving of real vegetables or fruits per
approximately 14 crisps. Flat Earth fruit crisps and veggie crisps are
available in three delicious flavours. Two flavours are savoury (Garlic & Herb
Field(TM) and Tangy Tomato Ranch) and one is sweet (Peach Mango Paradise(TM)).
Frito-Lay's Flat Earth fruit crisps and vegetable crisps are now available at
Wal-Mart and at select grocery stores across Canada.
"Frito-Lay wrote the book on great tasting snacks, so we used that
expertise to do what some people thought was impossible," said Dale Hooper,
Vice President Marketing, Frito Lay Canada. "Flat Earth is a breakthrough
snack that tastes great and has positive nutritional benefits."
Why Flat Earth? Just like it was once hard to believe that the earth was
round, Flat Earth makes what some thought was an impossible snack, possible -
a convenient, better-for-you snack made with real vegetables and fruits. The
Flat Earth name is a constant reminder that previously held beliefs can be
changed. The brand's whimsical icon, the Flying Pig, is a fitting symbol for a
snack that was once thought impossible ("When pigs fly").
"Flat Earth is an innovative snack product that builds on and expands
Frito-Lay's health and wellness portfolio," said Lori Kelly, PepsiCo Canada,
Health and Wellness Marketing Leader. "Today's consumer demand for
better-for-you options was our call to action to develop the unique brand of
Flat Earth baked snacks."
The launch of Flat Earth is part of Frito Lay Canada's ongoing commitment
to health and wellness. Frito-Lay continues to provide leadership and
innovation in this area with efforts such as eliminating trans fat from its
entire snack chips portfolio and cooking products in healthier oils like
sunflower and corn oils.
