TORONTO, March 30 /CNW/ - More than a hundred Jewish Canadians from
across the country met in Toronto over the weekend with international allies
to form an organization dedicated to ending Israel's occupation of Palestinian
territory. Participants included representatives from 26 cities in Canada and
The conference adopted a number of principles, including:
- Human rights are universal and indivisible in Israel and occupied
- The battle against anti-Semitism is undermined whenever opposition to
Israel's government policy is automatically labelled anti-Semitic.
- Palestinians and Israelis alike have the right to peaceful and secure
- A just peace requires a willingness of all parties to the conflict to
comply with international law.
"Jews critical of Israel's government policies need a coherent,
consistent way to express their opinions and to work for change," said Diana
Ralph, conference coordinator. "We have launched an organization that will let
us do just that."
