MONTREAL, Oct. 7 /CNW Telbec/ - The first convention specifically
designed for Business Management DEC students will be held on November 11,
2008 under the theme "Bitten by the retail bug." More than 2,400 students from
all regions of Quebec are expected to participate in this one-of-a-kind event
at the Palace de Laval. Organized on the initiative of the Conseil québécois
du commerce de détail (CQCD), this is the first major event bringing together
the next generation of Quebec retail managers.
According to Détail Québec's 2008 diagnostic analysis, the lack of
candidates for available positions is the biggest problem identified by retail
businesses. More than 65% of retailers are currently grappling with this
problem and the majority of them expect it to be their biggest challenge over
the next five years.
"The retail sector is faced with a problem of recruiting qualified
personnel. That is why we want to provide qualified and interested students
with a better knowledge of the sector's advantages and challenges. We want to
impart to them the passion that drives retailers!", explained CQCD president
Me Gaston Lafleur.
The CEGEPs offering the DEC in Business Management have responded in
large numbers to the CQCD's invitation. In fact, 18 of them have made this
activity mandatory for students. The young participants will have the
opportunity to attend presentations by leaders in the sector who will speak to
them about issues, career prospects and the diversity of positions available
to them. They will also have privileged access to leading retailers who can
answer their questions about their future in retail. Young graduates who have
already embarked on retail careers will also speak about their experience in
the labour market.
Four retail business executives will address the students during the
convention. They are Mr. Alain Bouchard, President and CEO of Couche-Tard
inc., Ms. Chantal Glenisson, Regional Vice-President of Wal Mart Canada, Ms.
Anna Martini, President of Groupe Dynamite inc. and Mr. Paul-André Goulet,
President and CEO of Groupe Goulet-Veilleux, a franchised member of Sports
