FCM welcomes Prime Minster Harper's offer to work together to build Canada

CALGARY, June 1 /CNW Telbec/ - The following statement was released today
by Federation of Canadian Municipalities' President, Concillor Gord Steeves.

"We thank the Prime Minister for coming to our conference and speaking to
us. He received a warm reception from our delegates, who responded
enthusiastically to his government's important investments in infrastructure.
Our members also applauded the Prime Minister's comments on the need for
action to secure safe streets for our cities and communities. The Prime
Minister also spoke about his government's initiatives on clean air and
climate change, an area in which municipal governments have a major interest
and where they can play an important role.
We agree with the Prime Minister in his speech today that, 'working
together is the best way to build a country that will be recognized as the
best place in the world.' The municipal sector looks forward to taking the
Prime Minister up on his offer."
