FCM welcomes Green Party Leader Elizabeth May to its annual conference

    WHISTLER, B.C., June 7 /CNW Telbec/ - The following statement was
released today by Federation of Canadian Municipalities' (FCM) President Jean
Perrault, following the speech to FCM delegates by Elizabeth May, Leader of
the Green Party of Canada:
"FCM delegates today welcomed Green Party Leader Elizabeth May to their
annual conference and were pleased to hear that she understands municipalities
need a fairer share of government revenues to properly serve Canadians.
We agree with Ms. May that increased revenues could help cities and
communities meet their full potential as partners in building a stronger
Canada.
We particularly appreciated that she told our members there is a need for
sustained investments in infrastructure, public transit and affordable housing
to meet the most pressing needs facing our cities and communities today.
She also recognized that those investments would help lay a lasting
foundation for healthy communities and a strong economy.
I would like to thank Ms. May for sharing her insights with our members
and we look forward to working with her and all members of Parliament to build
a stronger, prosperous and more sustainable Canada."
