National survey from Sears Canada reveals that Canadians put more effort
into shopping for Mother's Day gifts than they do for Father's Day
TORONTO, June 6 /CNW/ - June 17th will provide millions of Canadians with
the opportunity to show their dads, grand dads, step dads and other important
father figures in their lives how much they are appreciated.
According to a national survey conducted by Leger Marketing(*) on behalf of
Sears Canada, two thirds of Canadians (62%) plan to buy a Father's Day gift.
This is in contrast to the 73% of Canadians who bought their mom a Mother's
Day gift. We may be asking ourselves why shopping for dad lags behind Mother's
Day shopping. It could be that buyers are not sure about what to purchase.
The survey revealed that three in five Canadians (58%) find it harder to
shop for Dad than for Mom. There are many possible explanations for this:
being financially tapped-out from Mother's Day gift purchases or simply being
fresh out of gift ideas for dads. No matter what the reason, it's time for
Canadians to show Dad he's just as appreciated as Mom, especially since well
over one half of Canadians (57%) claim to enjoy shopping for a Father's Day
"We believe in their hearts, that Canadian sons and daughters have only
the best intentions when it comes to their dads," said Vincent Power, Director
of Corporate Communications, Sears Canada. "We hope that the results of this
poll will help motivate Canadians to close the gap between Mother's Day and
Father's Day gift giving."
Stumped? Just ask!
While approximately one third of Canadians (36%) aged 35 years and older
will seek input from the gift recipients themselves - their moms - about what
to get them for Mother's Day, the survey results show that they are more
reluctant to seek the same input from their dads for Father's Day gift ideas.
"Although Canadians may feel that dads are generally harder to shop for
than moms, don't feel limited to just another tie or pack of golf balls," said
Vincent Power. "It's a bit of a cliché to say that it's the thought that
counts, but it's true. Sometimes even the smallest gestures can have a big
impact, and at Sears we're always happy to help with creative ideas and
suggestions for gifts your dad will love."
Show dad the love!
Fortunately, with well over a week left until the big day, there's still
plenty of time to show Dad the love he deserves this Father's Day.
