'Fast Forward' event sends strong, positive message despite recession

TORONTO, April 7 /CNW/ - Digital sculpting, HDTV broadcasting and
motion-graphics are just some of the leading-edge skills visitors to The
Centre for Creative Communications at Centennial College can sample on
Saturday, April 25, at an event designed to send a very strong message to both
current and prospective students: Think past the recession and get ready for
what's next.
The Fast Forward Student Exhibit and Interactive Sessions event will
showcase outstanding student work from the past year and provide
career-focused demonstrations highlighting its state-of-the newsroom, digital
animation and game design labs, art and design studio, HDTV broadcasting
production studio and more.
"We've always been preoccupied with thinking about tomorrow here at The
Centre," says Dean Nate Horowitz. "As the economy transitions, we will see new
opportunities emerging through the advent of affordable technologies and
innovative design practices that will shape this industry for years to come."
The Centre's students, faculty and staff have been at the forefront of
innovation with podcasting, social media, and other interactive initiatives as
part of its curriculum.
"We are confident about the future of our students - despite the present
turmoil in the industry," Horowitz says. "When the economy rebounds, our
talented and creative graduates will be ready to contribute with in-demand
skills employers will be seeking."
Since its inception in 1994, The Centre has been preparing people to work
in all facets of the communications, media and design industry, educating
thousands of students at its East York campus - once the filming location for
the original, highly successful Degrassi High television series.
The free public event is taking place from 1 to 4 pm on Saturday, April
25. The Centre is located at 951 Carlaw Ave. at Mortimer.

The Centre for Creative Communications offers hands-on programs in the
areas of Art + Design, Advertising + Public Relations, Journalism +
Publishing, and Integrated Media.
