Family Day offers opportunity to skate with the Leafs for Easter Seals Kids

TORONTO, Jan. 15 /CNW/ - Ontario's newest statutory holiday, Family Day,
offers everyone the opportunity to participant in the Toronto Maple Leafs
Skate for Easter Seals Kids. For a minimum $100 in pledges, participants
receive a 45-minute skate session, and the opportunity to skate with Leafs
players at Air Canada Centre on Monday, February 16, 2009, in support of
Easter Seals Ontario and the Leafs Fund for Kids.
For a number of years, George Stroumboulopoulos, host of CBC's The Hour,
has been an enthusiastic volunteer and host of the event that helps support
Ontario's kids with physical disabilities. And this year he is back again,
hosting the noon hour skating session of the Toronto Maple Leafs Skate for
Easter Seals Kids. Leafs TV Jodi Vance, will also be one of the afternoon's
celebrity hosts.
"It is heartening to see the strength of the Toronto Maple Leafs' 31-year
commitment and support of this event. These are especially challenging times
for families with kids with physical disabilities and the Maple Leafs Skate
for Easter Seals Kids is an important fundraiser. A family with a child with a
severe disability incurs huge expenses associated with their care that can
cost up to $40,000 a year," says Carol Lloyd, President and CEO, Easter Seals
Ontario.
The Toronto Maple Leafs Skate for Easter Seals Kids is an initiative of
the Leafs Fund for Kids. The Leafs Fund for Kids is committed to improving the
lives of children and youth by providing access to sports and recreation
opportunities that encourage health and wellness in our community.
"The Leafs Fund for Kids is proud of our long history in supporting
Easter Seals," said Lori Radke, director of community partnerships for Maple
Leaf Sports & Entertainment. "The Toronto Maple Leafs Skate for Easter Seals
Kids is a fabulous event. It allows the community to come together with the
team for a great cause."
Top fundraising participants have the chance to receive excellent
incentives and prizes-with the Grand Prize Sponsor, Red Tag Vacations,
donating a Disneyworld Vacation Package for two, to be awarded to the top
individual fundraiser on the day of the event. Easter Seals is grateful for
the generosity of all event sponsors including: Mr. Greek, Tim Hortons and
AM640.

Easter Seals Ontario provides financial assistance for essential mobility
equipment, such as walkers and wheelchairs, for children and youth with
physical disabilities, as well as fully accessible summer camp and funding for
participation in other summer recreational programs. For more information,
