EXFO Releases Advanced 30 MHz Copper Test Module for AXS-200 SharpTESTER Platform

    - New module tests full 30 MHz VDSL2 spectrum over copper access networks
    - Only integrated test solution that tests across all frequencies - VF,
      ADSL, ADSL2, ADSL2+, VDSL and VDSL2 - and performs DSL and triple-play
      service verification
    - Complete triple-play pre-qualification and troubleshooting enables high
definition (HD) IPTV and VoIP deployments
    - Module strengthens AXS-200 platform offering for access network testing

    QUEBEC CITY, Jan. 7 /CNW Telbec/ - EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering Inc.
(TSX:EXF)(NASDAQ: EXFO) announced today the release of the AXS-200/610 30 MHz
Copper Test Set for quick and accurate fault location as well as service
pre-qualification to support ADSL2+ and VDSL2 triple-play deployments.
This latest test module from EXFO is housed inside the multi-service and
multi-medium AXS-200 SharpTESTER modular test platform, a handheld,
WinCE-based advanced test set that can easily be configured for
copper/DSL/triple-play, Ethernet or optical testing applications in access
networks.
The AXS-200 platform, when used in conjunction with the AXS-200/610
copper test module, identifies, locates and repairs copper loop plant problems
that affect triple-play service quality. The AXS-200/610 consolidates
voiceband and fault location measurements together with the required wideband
measurements (up to 30 MHz) that are required to qualify copper loops for
bandwidth-intensive triple-play services being deployed over various xDSL
technologies. The AXS-200/610 has the most comprehensive range of copper
measurements which allow field technicians to test copper loops for any
possible application, including traditional circuit-switched voice services,
SHDSL, ADSL, ADSL2, ADSL2+, VDSL and VDSL2.
In order to allow network service providers (NSPs) to efficiently
troubleshoot and qualify the triple-play access networks, the AXS-200/610
incorporates automated routines with simple Pass/Fail analysis for all test
modes. In addition, the unique "Loop Mapper" feature automatically plots a
graphical depiction of the copper loop, which visually shows the loop length,
eliminating the need to interpret complex TDR traces.
As xDSL-based triple-play deployments continue to surge, there is an
increasing need for field technicians to conduct in-service verification of
DSL and triple-play deployments in addition to copper qualification and
troubleshooting. To address this need, EXFO has also introduced the
AXS-200/625 30 MHz Copper and ADSL2+ Triple-Play Test Set, another test module
available for the AXS-200 SharpTESTER platform, which consolidates all the
capabilities of the AXS-200/610 with the capabilities of the recently launched
AXS-200/620 ADSL2+ Triple-Play Test Set. This consolidated test solution is
the most complete test set dedicated to the access market, allowing
technicians to turn up triple-play services more efficiently than ever. No
other test solution on the market can offer a comparable range of copper, xDSL
and triple-play service testing inside a compact, all-in-one, single module
test solution.
By having a fully integrated test solution, there is no need to swap
modules as technicians migrate from installation, provisioning and
troubleshooting applications. In addition, the AXS-200/625 has a powerful
multi-layer analysis measurement that will graphically analyze network errors
and determine whether they are occurring at the physical layer, DSL layer or
IP layer. No other portable field test solution on the market today has the
ability to automatically correlate network errors that affect triple-play
service and pinpoint the source of the problem.
"As NSPs around the world continue their FTTx build-outs to facilitate
the deployment of IP voice, voice and data services, they are clearly pushing
the limits of their existing copper plant," said Etienne Gagnon, EXFO's
Vice-President of Product Management and Marketing. "As a result, there's an
increasing need to ensure that the copper plant is provisioned to handle such
triple-play services. The AXS-200/610 and AXS-200/625, with their 30 MHz
testing capabilities, are ideally suited for field technicians to pre-qualify
and troubleshoot local loops that will support deployments up to VDSL2."
