Executive MBA in Healthcare launched by Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia

VANCOUVER, Nov. 19 /CNW/ - The launch of an Executive MBA in Healthcare
by the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia
underscores the fundamental change in today's healthcare field. Every
stakeholder group is demanding measurable results, and this has led to a
strong demand for innovative leaders who aim not only to improve, but to
transform, the management and delivery of healthcare.
"The dramatic restructuring of the health system over the past decade has
created the need for the managers of today and tomorrow to seek new
opportunities for directed studies with a decided managerial focus in health,"
said Bob Smith, Sauder School Adjunct Professor, Director of Education for the
UBC Centre for Health Care Management, and former CEO of the Fraser Health
Authority.
The UBC Executive MBA in Healthcare is designed for senior managers from
all sectors of the health delivery continuum with at least eight years of
experience - including administrators, physicians, and health industry
specialists in government, management, pharmacy, biotechnology and research.
The 15 month, part-time program applies the broad and rigorous management
and leadership fundamentals of an MBA program to the context and complexities
of healthcare. The inaugural program will offer 2008 students an adaptable,
flexible business education in such realms as healthcare economics, financial
management, and operations and logistics, as well as leadership and change
management.
"Participants in this program will benefit from the expertise within the
Sauder School and from our important healthcare partnerships at the local and
national levels," said Daniel F. Muzyka, Dean of the Sauder School of
Business.
The Executive MBA program, taught by Sauder's world class faculty and
healthcare industry leaders, was designed by a unique collaboration between
the UBC Centre for Health Care Management and the Leaders for Life Program.
The program is being developed in consultation with an advisory group
composed of senior healthcare leaders from British Columbia Health
Authorities, and representatives from the BC Medical Association, the BC
Nurses Union and the Canadian College of Health Service Executives.
The inaugural program commences in April 2008 and registration for the
program is currently open.
"The EMBA is being developed to meet needs in the healthcare field that
currently are not being met," said John Mabbott, Executive Director of the UBC
Centre for Health Care Management. "Leaders will learn business management
techniques adapted for the healthcare system".

The Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia is
Canada's leading academic business school. Recognized globally for its
