Eurocopter Canada recognized by Federal Minister of Labour for commitment to health and safety

FORT ERIE, ON, April 6 /CNW Telbec/ - The Honourable Rona Ambrose,
Federal Minister of Labour, visited Eurocopter Canada's Fort Erie facility
today to recognize the helicopter company's ongoing commitment to uphold high
standards of health and safety.
Minister Ambrose toured Eurocopter's Fort Erie facility Monday afternoon
and spoke about the importance of health and safety in the workplace.
"Eurocopter Canada has worked diligently to implement a number of
safety-conscious programs and have seen the results," said Marie-Agnès Vève,
president and CEO of Eurocopter Canada. "So, we are delighted to have our
efforts and achievements recognized by Minister Ambrose."
This year, Eurocopter Canada launched its 2009 Health and Safety program
with a long-term vision to become a leader in safety and accident prevention
within the Canadian helicopter industry. Among its 2009 goals, Eurocopter
Canada aims to have zero lost-time injuries by providing guidance and training
to supervisory employees, better enforcement of safety policies and taking
part in the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board's (WSIB) Safety Groups
program.
The Eurocopter Canada Management team and the 240 employees are fully
committed to working together to create a safe work place environment. With
200 people employed in skill based jobs, a strong commitment to safety is
essential.
"All of our employees have made a personal commitment to health and
safety, both for themselves and those around them," added Vève. "They truly
are the cornerstone of our health and safety success, which has also allowed
us to realize greater efficiencies and give us a competitive advantage in our
market."
Beyond its internal systems, Eurocopter Canada has established a working
relationship with the Greater Toronto Airports Authority Fire Department to
train their Aircraft Incident Response team. This team would work in
conjunction with the Town of Fort Erie Fire Department to respond to
Eurocopter aircraft incidents in the area. The company is also working closely
with the Federal Labour Program and the other expert organizations to maintain
high standards of safety throughout its facilities.
