Etruscan's diamond drilling intersects significant gold mineralization in the northwestern area of Diba



    HALIFAX, April 3 /CNW/ - Etruscan Resources Inc. (EET.TSX) reported today
that diamond drill results from reconnaissance drilling undertaken two
kilometers northwest of the main drilling area on its Diba gold discovery in
Mali, West Africa (See Figure 2:
http://files.newswire.ca/423/Mali_West_Figure_2.doc) has intersected
significant gold mineralization, including 8 meters of 3.5 g/t gold within a
low grade envelope of 31 meters of 1.0 g/t gold. Etruscan also reported today
on additional diamond drill results from the main drilling area in the south
of the Diba discovery where most of the drilling to date has been undertaken.
Detailed geophysical surveys have been completed over the entire 2.5 kilometer
strike length of the Diba gold anomaly and have delineated significant
additional drill targets. These geophysical anomalies (chargeability highs
from induced polarization surveys) may represent zones of disseminated
sulphides that can be associated with gold deposits.

    Diamond Drill Results from the Main Drilling Area

    The main drilling area lies between sections 2240N to 2880N representing
a distance of 640 meters (Figure 2:
http://files.newswire.ca/423/Mali_West_Figure_2.doc), located in the southern
most part of the Diba gold anomaly. New drill highlights from this area
include:

    
    - 3.9 g/t over 10 meters (including 28.5 g/t over 1 meter)
    - 2.0 g/t over 33 meters (including 26.0 g/t over 1 meter)
    - 1.9 g/t over 38 meters (including 5.9 g/t over 6 meters)
    - 2.1 g/t over 16 meters (including 4.6 g/t over 4 meters)
    - 85.9 g/t over 1 meter
    - 45.2 g/t over 1 meter
    - 43.1 g/t over 1 meter

    A complete listing of all significant new intercepts is presented in Table
1.

    Reconnaissance Diamond Drill Results from the Northwest Drilling Area

    The Diba gold anomaly is defined by 0.1 g/t gold anomaly that has been
traced by single sample auger drilling over a distance of 2.5 kilometers. The
northwest area represents a 1.5 kilometer segment of the anomaly that had not
been tested by diamond drilling. Rotary air blast (RAB) drilling had
intersected broad low grade mineralization in a number of areas (see company
Press Release dated January 8, 2007) and the purpose of these first
reconnaissance diamond drill holes was to determine the geological setting and
confirm mineralization in bedrock. The low grade mineralization is defined by
a 0.1 g/t gold envelope. Seven widely spaced holes (150 to 350 meters apart)
were spotted over a strike length of 1 kilometer. Five of the seven holes
intersected broad low grade gold mineralization over down-the-hole widths of
31 to 94 meters with zones of higher grade highlighted by:

    - 1.0 g/t gold over 31 meters (including 3.5 g/t over 8 meters with
      15.2 g/t over 1 meter)
    - 0.5 g/t over 39 meters (including 1.2 g/t over 8 meters)
    - 0.3 g/t over 42 meters (including 0.7 g/t over 9 meters)
    - 0.3 g/t over 40 meters (including 0.5 g/t over 16 meters)

2.

    Geophysical Surveys Provide Additional Targets at Diba

    Two reconnaissance geophysical surveys have been completed over the Diba
gold anomaly: a gradient array induced polarization ("IP") survey and a total
field magnetic survey, both carried out on 100 meter line spacing. Based on
these results a detailed high resolution induced polarization ("HRIP") survey
was carried out over anomalies generated from the reconnaissance geophysical
surveys and areas known to be mineralized from drilling results to date. The
IP technique is well suited to detect low concentrations of sulphides as
expressed in chargeability levels and one of the primary objectives of the
survey was to determine if there are areas of higher sulphide content that may
be indicative of feeder or stockwork zones.
    HRIP results have shown correlations between gold mineralization in the
main drilling area and have identified deeper targets with stronger
chargeability features in areas not yet tested by drilling. Gold
mineralization at Diba is known to be associated with weakly disseminated
sulphides (pyrite). HRIP data has provided indications of large scale
chargeability targets that may be associated with disseminated sulphides that
are not expressed by surface geochemical anomalies. The reconnaissance drill
holes in the northwest have intersected gold mineralization associated with
intrusive rocks (granodiorite, diorite and gabbro) that were not previously
recognized. The main drilling area, which has provided the best grades and
widths to date, is characterized by sediment hosted gold mineralization and
the recognition of intrusive related mineralization opens up new possibilities
for contact related deposits at Diba. HRIP data has provided a number of large
untested targets at depths between 50 and 300 vertical meters.

    Don Burton, Etruscan's Vice President Exploration and Chief Operating
Officer stated,

    "The ongoing drill results coupled with the newly acquired geophysical
    data provides us with a high level of confidence that Diba represents a
    significant mineralizing system that can host economic gold deposits.
    Chargeability features are consistent with host lithologies that would
    carry higher concentrations of sulphides than what we know exists in the
    main drilling area. Core drilling in the northwest has confirmed the
    broad low level gold anomalies and given indications of economic grades.
    It remains to be demonstrated that these geophysical targets are gold
    bearing, however it opens the door to the possibility that we have not
    yet touched the strongest parts of the system."

    Diba History

    The Diba gold discovery is situated in Mali West, just 15 kilometers south
of the Sadiola Gold Mine which is operated by AngloGold Ashanti (See Figure 1:
http://files.newswire.ca/423/Mali_West_Figure_1.doc). Previous results were
reported on November 21, 2006 and on January 8, 2007. A total of 8,323 meters
of diamond drilling has been completed in 61 holes together with 3,241 meters
of RC drilling in 33 holes (See Figure 2:
http://files.newswire.ca/423/Mali_West_Figure_2.doc).
    The Diba gold discovery (announced on June 5, 2006) covers an area
measuring 2.5 kilometers in length and 300-500 meters in width. The
mineralized zone has been defined by single sample auger values in
saprolite/bedrock exceeding 0.1 grams per tonne gold. Deeper drilling with
augers subsequently confirmed the widespread mineralization and in some holes
exceptional high grades were intersected (up to 114 grams per tonne).
Previously announced diamond drill and reverse circulation drilling results
(see company Press Releases November 21, 2006 and January 8, 2007) have
provided exceptional results including:

    - 900.5 g/t over 1 meter
    - 161.8 g/t over 2 meters
    - 49.5 g/t over 1 meter
    - 46.9 g/t over 5 meters (including 228.5 g/t over 1 meter)
    - 43.3 g/t over 2 meters
    - 33.4 g/t over 1 meter
    - 9.6 g/t over 5 meters (including 20.8 g/t over 1 meter)
    - 3.6 g/t over 28 meters (including 10.2 g/t over 8 meters)
    - 3.3 g/t over 17 meters (including 15.0 g/t over 1 meter)
    - 5.5 g/t over 16 meters (including 31.2 g/t over 2 meters)
    - 2.8 g/t over 14 meters (including 26.1 g/t over 1 meter)
    - 2.6 g/t over 17 meters (including 27.9 g/t over 1 meter)

    Potential Extends Beyond Diba

    The discovery at Diba is a result of a systematic regional exploration
program that has been carried out over the past two years on Etruscan's
principal land package in Mali West. In 2005 Etruscan completed regional
geochemical surveys which confirmed the presence of several low level (25-100
ppb gold) but extensive, kilometer-scale gold-in-soil anomalies at Diba,
Kobokotosou and Keneibandi. Four of these anomalies have now been confirmed
with single sample augering. Only the Diba target has been tested by deeper
multi-sample augering. RAB results from Kobokotosou are pending. Prior to deep
augering, the target at Diba measured 2.2 kilometers by 500 meters with a
maximum value 3.2 g/t. Dimensions of the second target at Kobokotosou are
0.8 kilometers by 400 meters with a maximum value 1.1 g/t gold, and the third
and fourth targets at Keneibandi measure 1.4 kilometers by 300 meters with a
maximum value 1.1 g/t gold and 1.2 kilometers by 300 meters with a maximum
value 1.5 g/t gold. Etruscan controls the entire 30-kilometer strike length
over which these anomalies occur.
    Gold analyses of all diamond drill samples and some RC samples were
performed by Abilabs Laboratories at Bamako, Mali using standard 50-gram fire
assay procedures. The remainder of RC samples and all RAB samples were
analyzed for gold by Analabs (SGS) at Kayes, Mali also using standard 50-gram
fire assay procedures. K. Kirk Woodman P.Geo., Etruscan's Chief Project
Geologist, is the Qualified Person overseeing Etruscan's exploration programs
in West Africa.
