ETFO Honours Simcoe County Teacher as Outstanding Role Model for Women

TORONTO, Aug. 18 /CNW/ - The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario
(ETFO) has honoured Simcoe County teacher Dorothy Ramsay with the Outstanding
Role Model for Women - Women's Program Award.
The award is given annually to a female member of ETFO who has been an
outstanding role model for women at the local level during the previous year,
and who has demonstrated high standards of personal and professional ethics,
and is a selfless advocate of the objects and goals of ETFO.
The Awards Committee noted that through her many professional and
community involvements, Dorothy has developed a longstanding history of
advocating for the federation and for the rights and needs of elementary
teachers and their students.
Dorothy, who has been an elementary teacher for 19 years, currently
teaches a Grade 2/3 classroom at Johnson Street Public School in Barrie, where
she is also involved in a variety of leadership and extracurricular
activities. In addition to running a demanding program in a hectic split-grade
classroom, she maintains an impressive number of federation and community
commitments.
In addition to serving as Second Vice-President of the Simcoe County
Teacher Local and member of the ETFO Political Action Standing Committee,
Dorothy is a local delegate to the Barrie and District Labour Council and a
secretary on the Council's Executive. She is also Chairperson for the Barrie
Women and Children's Shelter and President of the Barrie Provincial Liberal
Association and has worked extensively on a variety of local municipal,
provincial, and federal election campaigns.
"Through her contributions to the federation and to her community,
Dorothy has earned an enviable reputation as a positive role model for both
ETFO members and women in the local community," said ETFO President David
Clegg.

The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario represents 73,000
elementary public school teachers and education workers across the province
and is the largest teacher federation in Canada.
