Ernst & Young to Honour Canada's Entrepreneurial Excellence

Nominations are now being accepted for the 15th annual Ernst & Young
    Entrepreneur Of The Year(R) Awards

TORONTO, March 3 /CNW/ - Ernst & Young is searching for Canada's top
entrepreneurs. The 2008 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year Awards program
launches today. Nominate an entrepreneur in one of the industry or specialty
categories, including this year's new addition, Social Entrepreneur -
recognizing individuals who have led organizations that drive large-scale
social change for profit or not.
The Entrepreneur Of The Year program is celebrating 15 years of
entrepreneurial excellence in Canada. Over 7,000 entrepreneurs have been
nominated for the coveted award since 1994. Since the program's inception,
Ernst & Young has recognized close to 2,400 finalists, presented more than 700
regional awards and honoured 29 Lifetime Achievement Award recipients.
"The entrepreneurial spirit lies at the heart of every successful
business venture. It is the spark that ignites the imagination and turns a
promising idea into a major market force," says Dan Cornacchia, National
Director of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year program. "All Canadians
benefit from the accomplishments of these remarkable individuals, and we can
all take great pride in their success. Entrepreneurs are simply
inspirational!"
The awards honour entrepreneurs who have shown exceptional
entrepreneurial spirit, succeeded in such areas as innovation and financial
performance, and demonstrated a deep personal commitment to their communities.
Submissions are reviewed by an independent judging panel composed of past
award recipients, educators, business and community leaders.
The search for nominees is conducted in five regions across Canada -
Pacific, Prairies, Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic. The deadline for nominations
is April 30, 2008.
Ernst & Young founded The Entrepreneur Of The Year program to celebrate
great entrepreneurs and raise awareness of their economic and community
impact. The program honours entrepreneurs through regional, national and
global awards presented in more than 135 cities in over 50 nations on six
continents. Last year, Canada's national award recipient was Peter E. Gilgan,
CEO of The Mattamy Corporation, and Guy Laliberté, founder of Cirque du
Soleil, was crowned Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur of the Year.
The program is nationally sponsored by Global Television Network,
National Post, La Presse and RDI.
