Ernst & Young recognizes entrepreneurial maverick in Quebec

Pierre Péladeau receives the 2008 Quebec Lifetime Achievement Award

MONTREAL, Sept. 16 /CNW Telbec/ - The late Pierre Péladeau spent nearly
50 years building on his entrepreneurial spirit to create great things in
Quebec and across the country. Today, he was posthumously named the Ernst &
Young Entrepreneur Of The Year(R) 2008 Quebec Lifetime Achievement Award
recipient in recognition of his innumerable contributions to the regional,
national and international business scenes.
"Pierre Péladeau left a true entrepreneurial legacy in Quebec, and across
Canada. He was courageous and bold. He was a go-getter with the personal flair
and charisma to drive business and growth," said François Dufresne, Director
of the Entrepreneur Of The Year Awards program for Quebec and an Ernst & Young
partner in Montreal. "His long-term vision and willingness to take calculated
risks continue to inspire today's young entrepreneurs to succeed."
With a modest loan of $1,500 to buy a local newspaper, Péladeau began
what would soon become one of Canada's largest media companies: Quebecor. His
early career focus on newspaper publishing quickly expanded to encompass
printing presses, forestry products, multimedia and other news communication
outlets. Through ardent acquisitions and strategic global moves, Péladeau
transformed Quebecor into an industry leader. His entrepreneurial ventures
extended to many philanthropic initiatives. In addition, he earned an
induction into the Order of Canada and the National Order of Quebec.
The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year Lifetime Achievement Award
honours individuals whose lasting impact on Canadian and international
business nurtures the next generation of Canadian entrepreneurial talent. This
year, the Entrepreneur Of The Year Program proudly celebrates a milestone
anniversary - 15 years of honouring the country's most impressive
entrepreneurs from all areas of business.
