Environmental education group and Encana to launch new learning resource centre

CALGARY, Sept. 21, 2011 /CNW/ - The Alberta Council for Environmental Education (ACEE) and Encana Corporation today announced the launch of a free, searchable database designed to help educators and the general public find quality resources to help teach and learn about the environment.  The launch of the Encana Environmental Education Resource Centre will take place at a celebration of environmental education at Calgary's Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) store at 7 pm on Thursday, September 22, 2011.

The Encana Environmental Education Resource Centre (http://www.abcee.org/resources) showcases information from hundreds of groups, organizations and individuals involved in environmental education in Alberta.  Users of this new Resource Centre will benefit from having a comprehensive, up-to-date public directory that helps them easily find or develop specific environmental education resources.

"The Resource Centre helps ACEE deliver on its mission of advancing environmental education in Alberta," states Executive Director Gareth Thomson.  "Education is the best tool we have to create a sustainable future for Alberta, but until now we've never had a 'one-stop shop' where all those educational resources are gathered. For example, now school teachers and other educators such as scout leaders can search by topic or grade or curriculum to access quality teaching materials - or find out about a funding program that will support their work."

Encana's Community Involvement Advisor Lois Wozney points out the database has other uses too. "Encana is committed to supporting environmental education, and we are often approached by groups who are planning or operating programs or projects that are very similar to each other.  Now, the environmental education community can use this database to learn what their colleagues are working on, opening the door to more collaboration, partnership, and more efficient use of funds available for this critically important work."

The celebration at MEC is open to the public and the media.
