                          Tissue and Paper Towels -

    TORONTO, Jan. 31 /CNW/ - It's official - Ontarians' concern for the
environment has reached even the most private room of the house. A Leger
Marketing survey sponsored by Cascades Tissue Group finds that over 80% of
Ontarians would switch to a tissue brand that demonstrates environmental
responsibility by helping save trees and that 83% would like to do more
overall to help the environment. Unfortunately, 72% are not aware of tissue
products that are eco-friendly.
Now, environmentally savvy Ontarians can make doing their part for the
planet a little easier by rolling with the new Cascades(R) 100% Recycled
bathroom tissue and paper towels. Just launched by Cascades Tissue Group,
these tissue products adhere to a rigorous environmentally-friendly process at
every stage of production.
"Recycled paper is no longer merely a choice; it's a necessity," explains
Suzanne Blanchet, President and CEO of Cascades Tissue Group. "With
environmental sustainability being of increasing concern to Ontarians,
Cascades Tissue Group now offers a simple, effective and easy way to make a
noticeable contribution toward a better environment," she adds.

Save 50,000 trees with just one roll

Every little gesture to safeguard the environment helps. For instance, if
every Canadian family were to change one roll of bathroom tissue made of 100%
virgin fibres to one roll made of 100% recycled fibres, nearly 50,000 trees
would be saved across the country(1). Needless to say, making an
environmentally friendly gesture like this every day would not only help
conserve our forests for future generations, it would also protect the
wildlife, flora, and natural riches that are found there.

    A "responsible" manufacturing process

In this age of fair trade and organic foods, consumers are placing
growing importance on the manufacturing processes of the products they buy,
and on the social responsibility of the companies who bring them to market. In
fact, the Leger survey confirmed that 81% of Ontarians would switch brands if
the manufacturer cared about the environment.
Cascades Tissue Group is the only producer of tissue paper to receive
both EcoLogo(M) and Process Chlorine Free (PCF) certification for its
paper-bleaching process. Cascades Tissue Group avoids releasing chlorinated
substances into the environment and protects our precious forests.
Cascades(R) 100% Recycled paper products are made with 80% less water
than the industry average and are dried using natural gas, one of the cleanest
combustible fuels available.
They can be composted, are biodegradable, and are safe for septic tanks
and sewer systems. Once the manufacturing process is complete, Cascades Tissue
Group redirects up to 90% of its annual production residues from landfill
sites for use as compost, liming, or fertilizer, notably by agricultural
producers, and as impervious clayey material for geotechnical purposes.

Highlights of the Cascades Tissue Group Survey:
    -----------------------------------------------

    - 89% regularly recycle and use their blue bin

        occasionally

    About the survey

Data collection for the Leger Marketing survey conducted on behalf of
Cascades Tissue Group in December, 2006, was collected from a sample of 1000
adult Ontarians. With a sample of this size, the results are considered
accurate to within +/-3.1%.

Cascades' concern for the environment: a natural choice

Since it was founded over 40 years ago, environmental protection has
become a way of life, a philosophy, and a tenet of management for Cascades.
The company has strived to protect our forests and environment by increasing
the amount of recycled materials it uses, continuing to further cut greenhouse
gas emissions, reusing residues, and maximizing energy efficiency.
In doing so, Cascades helps conserve 30 million trees a year and recycles
over 2.7 million metric tons of paper and used cardboard annually.
