Utility teams up with Loblaw Companies, City of Mississauga to give free
CFLs to Mississauga residents
MISSISSAUGA, ON, April 18 /CNW/ - Enersource, in partnership with Loblaw
Companies and in conjunction with the City of Mississauga Earth Days, today
announced the launch of switch4earth(TM), a unique two-day event program that
provides one free 4-pack of compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) to each
residence in the City of Mississauga.
As part of Enersource Hydro Mississauga's commitment to helping customers
conserve electricity while also benefiting the environment, the
switch4earth(TM) program is an evolution of Enersource's successful
conservation events program. Since 2005, the utility has provided over 74,814
compact fluorescent lights, with a total yearly energy savings of over
7,800,000 kilowatt hours, which is enough electricity to power about 870

Earth Day period to draw attention to efficient lighting alternatives," said

we demonstrate our shared sense of environmental stewardship in the

The switch4earth(TM) event runs Saturday, April 21 - Sunday, April 22nd.
On April 21st, Mississauga residents can visit any Mississauga Loblaws or Real
Canadian Superstore location between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to receive one
free 4-pack of CFLs. On Earth Day, April 22, residents can join Enersource at
the switch4earth(TM) celebration at Mississauga City Hall - Civic Square
between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. and receive their CFLs and meet Dora the
Explorer live and enjoy other children's activities. The program is limited to
one free 4-pack of CFLs per Mississauga household.
Compact fluorescent light bulbs, or CFLs, use up to 75 per cent less
energy than incandescent bulbs. Enersource Hydro Mississauga distributes only
well known, name brand CFLs and promotes proper use of these lights, reminding
residents that CFLs should not be used in totally enclosed recessed fixtures,
with dimmer switches, or in touch lamps with photocells or electronic timers.
