Energy Council of Canada Announces Energy Person of the Year at 2007 Forum



    CALGARY, June 21 /CNW/ - The Energy Council of Canada is pleased to name
Pat Daniel, President and CEO, Enbridge Inc. as the 2007 Canadian Energy
Person of the Year. The announcement concluded the Executive Energy Forum held
in Halifax from June 17-19, 2007 where government, associations, academia and
other energy stakeholders from around the world discussed the actions required
to ensure energy remains a fundamental driver for social, economic and
environmental prosperity.
    "We are pleased to recognize Pat Daniel's remarkable accomplishments and
contributions to the energy sector and his strong commitment to both business
and the community," says Carmen Dybwad, President of the Energy Council of
Canada. "Pat possesses the foremost characteristics recognized in energy
leaders - a strong sense of social responsibility and belief in giving back to
the community by focusing on environmental and social issues and economic
development."
    The Canadian Energy Person of the Year Award was established by the
Energy Council of Canada in 2001 to recognize and pay tribute to leaders in
Canada who have made a significant impact at both the national and
international level with respect to energy. The recipient of this prestigious
award serves as an ambassador for Canada's energy sector and is committed to a
clear vision of a sustainable energy future.
    Pat's energy-sector experience spans over 30 years. Pat was appointed
President and CEO of Enbridge Inc. in January of 2001. Previous positions
include CEO of Interprovincial Pipeline Inc. (now Enbridge Pipelines) and
President of IPL Energy in the United States (now Enbridge Inc.). Pat is also
a director of EnCana Corporation, Synenco Energy Inc. and Enerflex Systems
Ltd. He is also a member of the AMEC North American Advisory Board, Accenture
Advisory Board and the North American Review Boards of Air Liquide Holdings
Inc.
    Pat maintains a strong commitment to social responsibility, community
involvement, environmental and social issues which he demonstrates through his
positions as past Chairman and current Board member of the Business Advisory
Council for the University of Alberta's Faculty of Business, campaigning for
the United Way and STARS Air Ambulance as well as his support in the
development of renewable energy and emerging energy technologies and
participation in the launch of the Energy Council of Canada's Action by
Canadians program to engage individual citizens to reduce GHG emissions.
