Energem - Accident at Nigerian distribution facility causes damage and temporarily shuts down operations

    TSX: ENM

VANCOUVER, April 2 /CNW/ - Energem Resources Inc ("Energem" or "the
Company") advises that a fire occurred in the road transport loading bays
offtake area at its 50% owned Nigerian fuel storage and distribution facility.
Four of the eight road loading gantries were destroyed in the fire which was
confined to the road loading area. The cause of the fire is currently being
investigated. The plant is closed for inspection and assessment by insurers
and the relevant authorities and will re-commence operations from the
remaining undamaged loading gantries after this assessment is complete.
Repairs to the remaining road loading gantries is expected to take three
months. The plant is fully insured, including for business interruption.
This follows a record accident free plant construction phase, started in
2004, and early operating phase started in late 2006. The facility has
produced above budget performance in the first part of 2007 whereby the
operation has successfully begun returning cash to its shareholders, including
Energem.
Wayne Osborne, Vice President Petroleum, said:-
"The quick action of our staff together with the world class safety
mechanisms built into the facility ensured that the fire was contained and
extinguished quickly and performed completely to the high standards we
expect."
