Employers are prepared to agree to salary increase of 3% in Quebec and 3.4% Canada-wide - Findings of an ORHRI study



    MONTREAL, Oct. 8 /CNW Telbec/ - Employers are prepared to agree to an
average 3% salary increase in Quebec, compared to a Canada-wide average of
3.4%. These are the findings of a major survey published by the Ordre des CRHA
et CRIA du Québec (ORHRI) released this morning to mark its annual meeting on
compensation.
    The survey was conducted among 2,300 organizations across Canada by eight
of the country's most prestigious compensation consulting firms: Aon Conseil,
Hay Group, Hewitt Associates in collaboration with Normandin Beaudry, Mercer
HR Consulting, Morneau Sobeco, Saucier Consulting Inc., Towers Perrin and
Watson Wyatt.

    Forecast for Quebec

    According to the survey, in Quebec, senior executives will benefit from
the highest increase at an average 3.24%, which in some other private sectors
will climb to 3.5%.
    Technical and administrative employees rank second, with expected
increases of 3.13%, while unionized hourly rate employees come in last with an
average of 2.71%.
    The public/parapublic/municipal sector will see the lowest increase with
an average rate of 2.73%. Within this sector, unionized hourly rate employees
can expect to be at the bottom of the ladder at 2.1%.
    Employees in the other private sector, including the financial
institutions, insurance and real estate sector, are expected to come out on
top with average increases of 3.43% and 3.21% respectively.
    Workers in the manufacturing sector (durable and non durable goods) will
likely have to be satisfied with an increase of 2.90%.
    As mentioned above, the overall Quebec average is expected to be 3.0%.

    Canada as a whole

    Canada-wide, senior managers are also expected to top the list with an
average increase of 3.66%, with the financial institutions, insurance and real
estate sector taking the lead with an anticipated 3.8% increase.
    As in Quebec, unionized workers weigh in last with an expected average
increase of 2.99%, which falls to a low of 2.65% in the retail sales,
wholesale and distribution sector.
    This sector posts the lowest industry average at 3.2%, while the
financial institutions, insurance and real estate sector head the list at
3.51%.
    Lastly, as indicated, the average increase for Canada as a whole is 3.4%.

    ORHRI is the primary human resources management and industrial relations
reference organization in Quebec. Recipient of a Grand Prix québécois de la
qualité 2005, it has a membership of close to 9,500 dynamic professionals,
including almost 7,500 CHRPs and CIRCs. It is the only organization authorized
by the Professional Code to confer the designations of certified human
