MISSISSAUGA, ON, May 7 /CNW/ - EllisDon's Oxford County Administration
Building has received LEED(R) Silver certification. EllisDon was the Design
Build contractor for the Administration Building in Woodstock, Ontario which
was started in December of 2006 and completed in April 2008. The building
achieved 34 LEED credits during the final review process, and certification
was announced February 26, 2009.
"Design Build projects are particularly challenging as our teams take
responsibility for the entire Certification process, rather than just a select
group of credits typically delegated to the contractor," says Cameron Blair,
EllisDon's Manager of Sustainable Building Services for Eastern Canada. "The
Oxford County Administration Building is EllisDon's second project to achieve
Certification. With innovative features such as a condensate collection system
and a dramatic reduction in potable water use, this building is an incredible
achievement for our team."
The Oxford County Administration Building project was evaluated by the
Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) in accordance with the LEED Canada-NC
version 1.0 rating system, where buildings are required to achieve a minimum
of 33 credits to qualify for LEED Silver. Projects are judged in six
environmental categories: Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy and
Atmosphere, Materials and Resources, Indoor Environment Quality and Innovation
EllisDon's partners on the project included LEED Consultant McCallum
Sather Architects Inc. and the firm architects Tillmann Ruth Mocellin. In
addition to these firms, the project also had consultants for mechanical
(Besterd Mechanical), electrical (Gordon Electric) and landscape design
(Vafiades Landscape Architects).
