MISSISSAUGA, ON, Feb. 27 /CNW/ - EllisDon topped the list of companies
involved in the Top 100 Infrastructure Projects in Canada, as revealed in the
annual supplement in ReNew Canada's January/February 2009 issue. In total,
EllisDon is involved in 15 of the projects highlighted.
Now in its fourth year, the Top 100 Infrastructure Projects in Canada is
the culmination of 12 months of research between ReNew Canada and Colborne
Communications. The ranking is based on project value or cost and the projects
on the list must have reached financial close or be currently under
construction. Provincially, Ontario has the most projects, with 41 of the Top
100. This is due in large part to the number of hospital/healthcare projects
in the province.
Some of the EllisDon's projects mentioned include the Calgary Airport and
Foothills Medical Centre in Alberta; Woodstock, Sudbury Regional, Sault Area,
Bluewater Health and Montfort Hospitals in Ontario; and Nova Scotia Community
College and Colchester Regional Hospital in Nova Scotia.
EllisDon's prominent placement on the list is due in part to the
company's experience in Public-Private Partnerships or Alternative Financing
and Procurement. EllisDon's wealth of experience in infrastructure projects
goes beyond the traditional core competencies of general contracting and
construction management. The company has a track record of success in the
financing, design and facility management of infrastructure projects. With the
$500 million Brampton Civic Hospital Campus of William Osler Health Centre,
EllisDon became the first Canadian contractor to take an AFP deal from RFP
through to financial close and successful completion.
Infrastructure projects continue to be an important construction trend,
as evidenced by the Canadian government's recent stimulus package
announcement. Out of the $32 billion plan, $9.8 billion has been earmarked for
infrastructure spending. States John Bisanti, EllisDon's Senior Vice President
of Construction and Real Estate Services: "EllisDon's strength in
infrastructure building is apparent in looking at the Top 100 listing. With
our successes in past and current infrastructure work, the company is well
positioned to take on any new projects that result from the government's
