Elementary Teachers Open Their Hearts and Their Wallets for 'Herbie'

TORONTO, Aug. 20 /CNW/ - The more than 500 delegates attending the annual
meeting of the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) listened with
rapt attention as TV news anchor Gord Martineau told them the story of
'Herbie'.
Martineau described the journeys of children who rely on Operation Herbie
and the Herbie Fund to provide life-saving or life-altering surgeries at
Toronto's SickKids Hospital. To date, more than 600 children from more than 88
countries have received support from the fund, obtaining specialized medical
and surgical assistance that otherwise would not be available to them in their
home countries.
Following the presentation, the elementary teachers at the meeting
responded to Herbie's message with a donation of more than $25,000.

The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario represents 73,000
elementary public school teachers and education workers across the province
and is the largest teacher federation in Canada.
