Eighth Annual Walk for Kids Help Phone raises $150,000 in Atlantic Canada

HALIFAX, May 4 /CNW/ - Participants in 11 communities across Atlantic
Canada laced up their walking shoes on Sunday, May 3 and helped raise more
than $150,000 in the eighth annual Walk for Kids Help Phone ($3 million
nationally).
Kids Help Phone is Canada's only toll-free, bilingual, confidential and
anonymous phone and online counselling, referral and information service for
children and youth. Funds raised through the Walk for Kids Help Phone
represent approximately one third of the charity's annual operating budget.
"This year, we invited our supporters to walk so kids could continue to
have someplace safe where they can talk about the problems and questions that
are important to them," said Graham Lute, Interim President and CEO, Kids Help
Phone. "Canadians certainly stepped up to the challenge and we appreciate the
support of everyone who came out to walk or who pledged a friend or coworker
in this important event."
Kids Help Phone's professional counsellors have been providing help and
hope to kids across Canada since 1989. The funds raised at this year's Walk
for Kids Help Phone will ensure that kids in communities across Canada can
continue to receive the support they need today, tomorrow and for many years
to come.
"The Walk for Kids Help Phone is an event that we look forward to each
year and are very proud to be associated with," says Dawn Boylan, Manager,
Community Relations, Bell Aliant. "Our employees and retirees work tirelessly
to raise funds to support Kids Help Phone. With more than 1000 contacts per
day in Atlantic Canada alone, Kids Help Phone is an organization that has
proven to be a vital service for our youth."
Joining Bell Aliant as sponsors of the 2009 Walk for Kids Help Phone are:
