Eighth Annual PMC-Sierra Science Fair Fun Run Raises More Than $50,000 for B.C. Science Fair Students

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA, June 1 /CNW/ - The eighth annual PMC-Sierra
Science Fair Fun Run, which took place on Sunday, May 27 raised $50,000 and
attracted over 1,300 runners. To date, the run has raised over $310,000 for
The Dr. Michael Smith Science Fair Endowment in support of Science Fair
programs across B.C. After the run, participants enjoyed free giveaways, live
entertainment, face painting for children and free admission to the TELUS
World of Science.

The largest and most inclusive event in the technology industry and the
largest timed 5K run in B.C., the PMC-Sierra Science Fair Fun Run has
consistently received support from Vancouver's leading companies and
institutions, including representatives from the high tech, biotech,
financial, and legal community as well as local universities and schools.

Support from the community is essential for the ongoing success of
Science Fair programs across B.C. By supporting the PMC-Sierra Science Fair
Fun Run and in turn, B.C. Science Fair students, sponsors are ensuring that
the next generation of high tech and science professionals will be well
equipped with the skills they need to succeed in a constantly growing fast
paced world.

"Science Fairs are a key component to the ongoing success of many
students who participate, long after they complete university," says Patti
Leigh, Executive Director of the Science Fair Foundation of B.C. "By
encouraging students to participate in science fairs and explore education, we
are laying the groundwork for the next generation of scientists to find a cure
for cancer, reduce the effects of global warming or even take space travel to
the next level and set up a colony on Mars."

As the PMC-Sierra Science Fair Fun Run continues to grow, so do the
opportunities to grow the success of B.C.'s youth in the science and
technology sector. These students are truly the scientists of the future.
Participation in these fairs has the potential to allow them to make a huge
impact on the societies they live in by pursuing a career in science and/or
technology.
