EastLink secures 2007 designation as one of 50 Best Managed Companies

HALIFAX, Feb. 13 /CNW/ - EastLink announced today that it has requalified
for 2007 to maintain its status as a Best Managed company. EastLink first won
the Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies designation in 2006. This prestigious
national award is sponsored by Deloitte, CIBC Commercial Banking, National
Post, and Queen's School of Business.
"Over the past 15 years, Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies program has
recognized the most innovative and Best Managed Companies in Canada. We are
delighted to celebrate the accomplishments of EastLink," said John Hughes,
Deloitte partner and national leader of the Best Managed program.
Established in 1993, the Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies is a national
awards program, recognizing Canadian companies that have implemented
world-class business practices and created value in innovative ways.
Applications are reviewed by an independent judging panel that evaluates how
companies address various business challenges, including new technologies,
globalization, brand management, leadership, leveraging and developing core
competencies, designing information systems, and hiring the right talent to
facilitate growth.
"We thank our employees for their creativity, dedication and
professionalism which has earned EastLink the Best Managed designation again
in 2007," said Lee Bragg, co-CEO of EastLink. "We have experienced tremendous
growth in the past year and our employees' achievements are the reason we
continue to be a leading telecommunications and entertainment provider."
For over 35 years, EastLink has connected Maritimers to a world of
entertainment. In 1999, the company diversified its business to become the
first cable company in Canada to enter the local telephone market. This
achievement created one of the most competitive telephone area codes in North
America. While continuing to build on its core entertainment business,
EastLink delivers world class communication services to residential and
business customers in easy to understand bundles that provide great value.
"It takes a company focused on values, a strong business plan and, most
of all, hard work to succeed in today's market place," said Calvin Younger,
senior vice-president, CIBC Commercial Banking. "Companies winning this year's
Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies award exemplify these traits."
2007 winners of the Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies award, along with
Requalified and Platinum Club members will be honoured at the annual Best
Managed gala in Toronto on 25 February, 2008. On the same date, the Best
Managed symposium will address leading-edge business issues that are key to
the success of today's business leaders.
