Earls brings dynamic West Coast style to Toronto's financial district

Award-winning cuisine and wine on the menu starting February 12

VANCOUVER, Feb. 9 /CNW/ - A warm and welcoming west coast feel is coming to Toronto's downtown core with the launch of Earls, a restaurant offering award winning cuisine in a relaxed yet stylish environment. Opening February 12, and located in the heart of Toronto's financial district, at the corner of York and King streets, Earls globally inspired menu and wine list - lauded for its high-quality and value - are a great addition to Toronto's vibrant restaurant scene.

Originating in Alberta, now with 62 locations in Canada and the US, Earls is a restaurant success story. From their wine list to their employment philosophy, Earls has been recognized time and again as an industry leader. Ranking among the 50 Best Employers in Canada for four years running, Earls has also received multiple awards for best restaurant and best wine list over the years. "Our success has been built on one simple principle - we invest unconditionally in our people," said Stan Fuller, President & CEO. " We treat them right and help to unleash their entrepreneurial potential, which in turn, creates world famous experiences for our customers."

Locally grown and seasonal produce cooked from scratch by a culinary team that has traveled the world, is a key ingredient in Earls recipe for success. Infused with a diverse mix of international flavours including Indian, Italian and Asian, the menu has something for everyone. "Nothing is more important than the quality of the ingredients you start with. Sounds easy, but it takes discipline, research and a willingness to stand up for what you believe in," said Fuller. "Like cooking from scratch; it's an easy, uncomplicated way to achieve great taste, but it takes inspiration, which, I am humbled by when I see the heart and soul our cooks put into their craft, day in and day out." All of Earls sauces, dressings and baked goods are made in-house each day using fresh, clean products by skilled bakers and sauciers. "It takes more time but the end-result is worth it. It's an investment we're happy to make," said Fuller.

High quality at a reasonable price is the philosophy behind Earls wine list, recognized for its selection and value. This should make for a welcome change for Torontonians, especially during tighter economic times. "By establishing relationships with certain vintners and keeping our selection focused, we're able to buy wine at a better price. We pass this value onto our customers through our one-price wine philosophy and well priced reserves," said George Piper, Earls Director of Wine Experience. "We believe that wine should be approachable, never intimidating. We have a large selection of wines by the glass and servers who are well trained and well-equipped to assist our customers looking for a recommendation or wanting to branch out and try something new. The great thing is, our wine list means you can enjoy a variety of wines or enjoy a favourite without spending a fortune. It's one reason for our customers' enduring loyalty," added Piper.

The 10,000 square foot restaurant mixes industrial elements, like steel, with West Coast architecture. The end result is a restaurant that is stylish and hip but still warm and inviting; a sort of fusion of New York's edge with Vancouver's laid-back attitude. A wood ceiling crafted from shipping pallets and a 44-foot marble wall, are two eye-catching design elements. "It was important to create an ambience that's stylish and fresh, but still casual and comfortable," said Tanya Klarich, Lead Designer from e+ design + construction. An open kitchen in the centre of the restaurant not only provides diners with a dynamic visual distraction but contributes to its casual and open feel.

For people just wanting to enjoy a quick drink before heading to a hockey game or the theatre, there's a large bar area where people can mingle or relax in comfortable chairs. In the spring, the patio is expected to be a big draw. "We've softened the concrete feel of being outdoors in the city by using vegetation and other natural elements to create an environment made for lingering," says Klarich. With three large wood trellis cabanas, the patio is expected to become a destination for groups and outdoor lounging.

"We're excited to bring Earls unique "flavour" to Toronto's restaurant scene," concluded Fuller. "Torontonians have great taste, this is a dynamic city which represents some of what is best about Canada. We will aspire to be a valued citizen of what is best in this city."
