TORONTO, Feb. 27 /CNW/ - Last night the Duke of York crowned Tavo Diez de
Bonilla as the Duke Pubs' first pie-eating champion.
Sponsored by Fuller's London Pride Ale, the event created an electric and
rowdy atmosphere as ten contestants competed for the crown, bragging rights
and a Fuller's Gift Basket. The contest was broken down into three rounds: two
heats of five contestants, with the two fastest competitors to finish their
chicken pot pies advancing to the final round.
Tavo Diez de Bonilla smoked the competition in the first heat; however,
it was an extremely close call in the final and the three judges had to
clearly inspect the dish to make sure it had, in fact, been licked clean. But
in the end, Tavo Diez de Bonilla was declared the winner and crowned as the
Duke Pubs' first-ever pie-eating champion.
