VICTORIA, Oct. 2 /CNW/ - Newcastle Minerals Ltd. (TSXV:NCM) is pleased to
announce that drilling began today on Newcastle's Snip North property located
in the Iskut River area of north-western British Columbia. The drilling
program is designed to test the northeast and depth extensions of the Snip
North copper-gold porphyry zone. A program of 6-7 drill holes totaling
1,200-1400 metres is planned.
The Snip North property is located about 3 km north of the former
producing Snip gold mine. Exploration drilling during 2006 defined a large,
semi-continuous zone of porphyry copper-gold mineralization near the
south-central part of the property that measures approximately 600 metres
northeast by 250 metres northwest. The mineralization is hosted within altered
Upper Triassic / Jurassic clastic sedimentary and andesitic volcanics.
Silicified greywacke, quartz veins and veinlets, pyrite, chalcopyrite, minor
epidote and magnetite define porphyry mineralization and alteration. This zone
of mineralization has an apparent northeast-southwest trend and appears to be
open to the northeast, and probably to depth. It may also be open southwest
under the Iskut River.
The style, form, and type of mineralization are similar to the Bronson
Slope porphyry copper-gold deposit located nearby in the Bronson Creek Valley
some five kilometres to the south.
