TORONTO, June 28 /CNW/ - The Board of Directors of the Pharmaceutical
Advertising Advisory Board (PAAB) is pleased to announce the appointment of
Dr. Walter Rosser, MD as the new PAAB Chair. Dr. Rosser takes over from
outgoing Chair Dr. Reg Perkin, MD, who is stepping down after more than 10
years of distinguished service in the position.
"It is a great honour to succeed Dr. Perkin, who has given PAAB
tremendous leadership over the last decade, and is someone I have known and
respected professionally for almost 40 years" said Dr. Rosser. "The PAAB board
is truly a cross-disciplinary and very effective working body, and I look
forward to continuing to build on this success with PAAB board members and all
the PAAB staff."
Dr. Rosser has played a prominent role in family medicine research and
practice in Canada for more than three decades. He is the author of more than
100 articles, received the Maurice Wood award from NAPCRG for lifetime
contribution to research in Family Medicine in 2003, and was appointed a
fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Science in 2005.

The PAAB board also unanimously elected Dr. Ivan Silver, MD, Associate
Dean, Continuing Medical Education at the University of Toronto, as a new
board member, and Gloria Bowes, PAAB's Vice Chair, to the Executive Committee.
Dr. Silver will help further the multi-disciplinary reach of the board as a
representative of the Canadian Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada
(AFMC). Ms. Bowes is recognized for her outstanding contributions to major
initiatives undertaken by PAAB in recent years.
PAAB is an independent review agency whose primary role is to ensure that
advertising of prescription drugs is accurate, evidence-based, and balanced
(treatment risks and benefits). PAAB is a non-profit agency, operating
exclusively on a self-financing, fee-for-service basis. Its Board of Directors
includes balanced representation from medical and consumer organizations,
