TORONTO, Sept. 19 /CNW/ - The National Citizens Coalition (NCC) today
announced a multi-media campaign comparing the Liberal Green Shift to
Trudeau's National Energy Program (NEP) of 1980. The campaign that includes
newspaper ads(http://nationalcitizens.ca/doc_bin/News%20Ad.pdf) warns
Canadians to not be fooled by the Liberal carbon tax.
"The Liberal Green Shift plan has very little to do with the
environment," said Peter Coleman, President and CEO of the National Citizens
Coalition. "In reality this plan is nothing more than a massive new tax to pay
for Liberal social spending programs. At least in 1980, Trudeau didn't try to
hide what he was doing behind a smokescreen of environmentalism."
The NCC campaign, which highlights the similarities between the NEP and
the Green Shift, began with a series of radio ads that have aired in Alberta,
Saskatchewan, Ontario and Quebec. The campaign will continue with a nation
wide newspaper ad on Saturday, September 20th and will also include Billboards
in Regina on September 22nd and in Saskatoon on September 29th.
"In 1980 the NEP sucked more than $50 billion out of the Canadian
economy. Jobs were lost, businesses were forced to shut down, and the
government pitted the West against the East," added Coleman. "It took over a
decade to repair the damage, yet Dion is hell bent on repeating history."
Coleman concluded by saying "This is not a revenue neutral tax. Over 40%
of the potential economic impact will be felt in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Yet
these provinces make up only 13% of the Canadian population. Not only will
this policy once again pit the West against the East, but it will cause all
Canadians to pay more for basic items like fuel, home heating and food."
The NCC media campaign will continue throughout the federal election,
with new radio spots and billboards planed for the days to come.
